Can't you think of anything for dinner?
When I was a student, I used to surprise Karen by making something out of nothing. Hunger drove me to sit down in front of the wide-open fridge, yoga-like, staring at the few ingredients in it. My eyes jumped from one almost-bare shelf to the next until the tiny germ of dish began forming inside my bubbling head. A quick visit to the cupboard completed the culinary creation. Out came the pan and within half an hour, I magicked something to eat.
The result was not always guaranteed though. On a few RARE occasions the concoction went straight into the bin while a quick trip to the takeaway saved the day.
This morning I stumbled this useful site which speeds up the process by analysing the ingredients inside your fridge and larder and spitting out (!) a series of dishes.
Cooking by numbers
Check it out! The results can be quite enlightening but sometimes hilarious!
One of the suggestions I got was Aubergines with Mozzarella! Strange! I have neither ingredient in my fridge...
Desperate for inspiration?

What a fun idea for a site - but surely no-one keeps aubergines actually in their fridge!
Thats unkind to aubergines and if you say you sometimes put them there I'll get the RSPCA onto you (Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Aubergines of course).
Cooking by numbers? Sounds like fun, I'll check it out.
very strange place, Cream! First I listed the contents (as you can guess, my fridge & cupboard aren't bare) then accidentally hit "I feel lucky" and got a dish for pork. No, I have beef and bacon in fridge, but no pork. (Freezer doesn't count.)
Then took out the "lucky" button and they advised me to:
cook and eat the bacon (nothing added)
cook and eat the beef (nothing added)
fry an egg
bake a potato
put cheese on toasted bread
etc.
I think it wasn't my day at the recipe lottery, LOL!
I'd rather take a hard look at the pic and try to make that instead.
I do cooking by the numbers all the time, albeit with my own recipes which I create with the ingredients at hand. One of these days when I get tired of my one inspiritation, I shall try this site. Thank you!
We had snow this morning, can you believe it? Now the sun's back out. It's been April for a week now, weather changes faster than they can report it.
Wishing you a lovely Easter Monday!
Hi,
Great new site! The trouble is that it is addictive - I keep on popping in to see what you are up to when I should be writing! Have got some super new wines so will be in touch re your recipes once I have got myself organised (pandemonium at my end as kitchen collapsed under flood recently - luckily we emptied the wine cellar so at least we can drown our sorrows with a drink!).
Love Sue
PS have added Cloud Cookery Land as a link on LWB
Caro, I don't use aubergines at home except when I make a ratatouille. But at Casa we serve them grilled with fennel, courgettes, etc...
Akela, you might end up with more than you bargained for!
Hayden, definitely a strange site!
Try our red mullet with a couscous salad instead.
Merisi, I know you're just as great a cook as you are a photographer. Don't waste your time with that site.
Happy Easter to you.
Sue, your French wine collection makes me want to fly back to Carcassonne and roam around the Minervois, Languedoc and Roussillon.
Hope you've repaired your kitchen floor.
